§1

What Is SAMHSA?

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It is the federal agency responsible for improving behavioral health across the United States.

SAMHSA maintains the National Directory of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Treatment Programs — a comprehensive, regularly updated database of licensed substance use treatment facilities across all 50 states and U.S. territories. This database is publicly available and represents the most authoritative source of treatment facility data in the country.

Every facility listed on drugrehabilitationnearme.com exists in SAMHSA's national database. We do not add facilities that are not federally recognized.

§2

What 'Verified' Means — And Doesn't

When you see a facility listed on this directory, here is exactly what that means and what it does not mean:

What it means ✓

  • The facility is listed in SAMHSA's national database of licensed treatment providers
  • The facility holds a valid license to provide substance use treatment as recognized by state and/or federal authorities
  • The facility's address, phone number, and basic service data match SAMHSA's records at the time of our last index
  • Claimed listings have been reviewed by our team and the owner has verified their identity as an authorized representative

What it does not mean ✗

  • We have not audited the clinical quality, treatment outcomes, or staff credentials of any listed facility
  • We do not endorse or recommend any specific facility over another
  • Listing status does not guarantee current licensing — licenses can lapse and we encourage users to verify directly
  • A facility paying for a subscription plan does not affect its directory inclusion or search placement
§3

How Facility Claiming Works

Any authorized representative of a listed facility can claim their listing for free. Claiming gives you control over your profile — photos, contact details, tagline, specialties, and more. Here is how the process works:

1

Find Your Listing

Search for your facility by name or browse by state and city. Every SAMHSA-listed facility already has a page on this directory.

2

Submit a Claim

Fill out the claim form with your name, role, and contact details. We ask for enough information to verify you are an authorized representative of the facility.

3

Identity Review

Our team reviews your claim manually. We verify that the contact details provided are consistent with the facility's public records. This typically takes 1–3 business days.

4

Claim Approved

Once approved, you gain access to your facility dashboard. You can update photos, contact information, specialties, insurance accepted, and more.

5

Verified Badge

Approved facilities receive a Verified Partner badge that can be displayed on your own website. The badge includes a dofollow backlink to your listing — at no cost.

§4

How Ratings Work

Ratings displayed on facility listings were captured from publicly available sources at the time we indexed each listing. They are not updated in real time and may not reflect a facility's current rating. A facility's actual score may be higher or lower than what is shown.

We display ratings in good faith as a general reference point. We do not generate, fabricate, or moderate ratings in any way.

If you are a facility owner and your current rating differs from what is shown on your listing, you can hide it from your public profile from your dashboard. This feature is available free during our current beta period.

§5

Phone Numbers & Helplines

All phone numbers displayed on individual facility listings connect directly to that treatment facility. We do not intercept, route, broker, or monetize these calls in any way.

The site-wide helpline displayed in our navigation (1-800-487-4889) is SAMHSA's National Helpline — a free, confidential, 24/7 treatment referral and information service operated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. We receive no compensation for calls to this number.

§6

Questions & Contact

If you have questions about how a specific listing is sourced, why a facility appears or does not appear in our directory, or any other data standards question, contact us directly. We respond within 48 hours.
